2011-Mastretta-MXT-Luxury-Auto-Direct (1)

The Mastretta MXT is a high-performance 2 seat sports car, engineered to deliver outstanding performance through mechanical excellence. Every system, every component was engineered to make the driving experience an absolute thrill.

The Mastretta MXT is presented as the first high-performance sports car from Mastretta Cars, the new automotive manufacturer based in the city of Toluca, Mexico. The MXT is Mastretta’s answer to the lightweight sports car market, offering a highly advanced vehicle with aggressive design and outstanding driving dynamics, while simultaneously responding to more environmentally conscious times by achieving a high level of efficiency.

The ultra-light coupé, weighing in at just 930kg, is a completely new 2-seater mid-engine sports car developed using advanced motorsport technology and aerospace materials. The MXT is very much a driver´s car, so the priority from the beginning was to deliver outstanding performance through purity of design. Its powerful turbocharged 2.0 engine develops 250 hp, allowing the MXT to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds. This acceleration is harnessed by a finely tuned chassis, allowing the vehicle to develop more than 1.1 G of cornering and braking force.

In spite of its remarkable performance, the Mastretta MXT has the robustness and practicality to be driven daily, as it is well suited for long distance journeys and city driving alike. The interior is spacious, the vehicle is fitted with beautifully crafted carbon fiber seats wrapped in premium leather while interior accents are trimmed in Ultrasuede, creating the perfect balance between elegance and performance. The car is equipped with the latest technological amenities, including a multimedia system featuring GPS, Bluetooth and iPod compatibility. While performance oriented, the ride enjoys a high level of comfort due to lightweight vehicle construction. The MXT is a unique car that offers a high level of versatility, making it a perfect vehicle for daily spirited driving or as a powerful racetrack weapon.

Exterior Design

Designing a car is more than creating a beautiful shape. Our design team followed the traditional racing principles of functionality and lightness. Even at first sight, the striking design of the Mastretta MXT reflects its high performance nature.

Overall, the MXT has a very compact appearance. It sits low and broad on the road. From every angle the proportions of the car have a great balance. The main lines were influenced by features that define the modern high-performance vehicle: low height, two seats and a mid-engine configuration; creating the ideal layout for optimal handling response and stability. Proportions of the wheelbase, width, minimal overhangs, and height give the Mastretta MXT a stunning presence, while simultaneously suggesting lightness and speed.

The final shape of the car was dictated by the principles of aerodynamics. The flowing line that travels along the center of the car, starting with the low nose through to the rear spoiler, channels the air in a very clean way while generating enough downforce to give the MXT agility and balance at low and high speeds. Large side scoops provide breathing and cooling for the turbocharged engine. The flat aluminium underbody also plays an important part as it directs the air to the rear diffuser, not only avoiding lift but enhancing rear stability, essential features for the performance driver.

Components and details that form part of the exterior design enhance the beauty of the basic shape. The style of the headlights, painted in a contrasting color to the body, seamlessly follows the overall design. The side windows are frameless. The single exhaust system is elegantly housed in the center of the diffuser. Laser-cut lettering adorn the Mastretta name on the rear bumper and the MXT denomination on its sides.

Interior Design

The Mastretta MXT was engineered and built around the cockpit. The seats are positioned close together and as low as the chassis allows, creating an ideal seating position for performance driving and allowing the driver to enjoy optimal road feel.

Despite the vehicle’s small dimensions, the interior is spacious enough to comfortably seat adults of up to 6’3″ (1.90m). Bespoke carbon fiber seats trimmed in leather were developed to provide maximum support for the driver under high g-force generated by the Mastretta MXT when cornering, accelerating and braking. The flat-bottomed steering wheel, covered in suede, has a diameter of only 320mm, a size that facilitates quick turn-in. The aluminium pedals are positioned to allow precision footwork, with the throttle located slightly in front of the brake pedal to facilitate the heel-and-toe technique.

All the interior materials are classified specifically for the auto industry, including fire retardant carpets and treated leather, while Ultrasuede covers many elements. The end result is a high quality interior that fulfills all technical, safety, and visual expectations of a performance sports car.

Excellent visibility is facilitated in the front by a low nose that allows the driver to see the road ahead and by a clear view of the front fenders that facilitates precision turn-in at corners.

The Mastretta MXT is equipped with air conditioning to make the car suitable for long drives in any weather condition. For every day practicality, the in-car media system incorporates GPS navigation, iPod connectivity, hands free communication via Bluetooth, a DVD player and other technological features.

Engine

The turbocharged 2.0 litre Duratec four cylinder engine is located behind the cockpit and in front of the rear wheels with a transaxle configuration, connected to a MTX-75 five-speed manual gearbox.

With a power output of 250 bhp (186 kW ) and 250 lb/ft of torque, this powerplant is excellently suited to the MXT as it is compact and lightweight while delivering fantastic levels of high performance and drivability.

A bespoke engine management system was developed for performance driving: it has immediate throttle response and a consistent torque output throughout the rev range, while the turbo lag is unnoticeable. The shift lights at the top of the digital instrument cluster indicate the exact time to change gears, allowing the driver to make the most of engine performance.

Despite the impressive power figures, the MXT complies with Euro 5 emissions standards, and delivers an outstanding fuel consumption average of 25 miles per gallon.

Manufacturing

The Mastretta MXT is a powerful machine designed to deliver outstanding performance through mechanical excellence. This requires the use of bespoke materials and components, and a construction process that blends advanced technology with careful craftsmanship.

From the construction of the aluminium chassis to the delicate finish of the composite body, Mastretta employs high quality manufacturing techniques that transform concept into reality.

With a complete design and engineering package that is entirely new and developed in house, the MXT has 1,800 separate purpose-built parts that fit together with utmost precision. The chassis is made from laser-cut aluminium sheets and extrusions that are bonded together with aerospace adhesive, complemented with a structural carbon-fiber floor and chromoly roll cage. As a result, the chassis is outstandingly light and rigid while the cockpit is very safe.

As the chassis is being manufactured, other departments fabricate all mechanical components and sub-assemblies, such as the hand-made suspension, engine structure, fuel tank and body panels. All parts undertake quality control testing before arriving at the assembly area, where the car is finally put together. Employing clever solutions that remain true to the purity of design, the MXT uses high quality components from specialized manufacturers such as custom-made HiSpec braking system and the turbocharged Duratec 2.0 engine, which fit seamlessly with the rest of the package.

Chassis

Built from specially designed aluminium extrusions and carbon fiber, the bespoke chassis of the MXT was engineered to provide high rigidity and low weight. The suspension of the Mastretta MXT perfectly complements the potential of the lightweight semi-monocoque and powerful engine, which results in outstanding levels of lateral grip and traction. The car corners flat and stable.

The semi-monocoque constitutes the basis of the vehicle’s class leading dynamics and performance. Weighing just 930kg, the car accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and generates 1.1G of lateral acceleration. Its low weight also aids other performance parameters as well as fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Aluminium extrusions and sheets are bonded together with aerospace industry-derived cold-cure adhesive, with a tensile strength of 2,000 psi, to form the main cockpit tub. The carbon fiber floor beneath the entire cockpit area increases the car’s stiffness, while the lightweight steel rear subframe gives unity to the chassis and provides a strong backbone for the engine and rear suspension assembly. The aluminium fuel tank is placed within the monocoque, between the passenger cell and engine compartment.

The MXT features a fully independent double wishbone suspension front and rear, with a front anti-roll bar that further stabilizes the car. The shock absorbers and coil springs are finely tuned for grip. This setup provides optimum agility, stability and steering precision, while still delivering a surprisingly good level of ride comfort.

Performance

The Mastretta MXT is about performance. Advanced engineering, lightweight materials and a powerful engine act together to achieve the superb dynamics of the MXT. Steeped in the principles of modern racing technology, the MXT does not include driver aids or electronic assists that dull the driving experience.

As a driver’s car, the most important development aim was to focus on optimizing acceleration, cornering and braking capabilities. With an overall weight of just 980 kg and a turbocharged Duratec 2.0 litre engine producing 250 hp, the MXT accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 260 km/h. The high-performance chassis can generate lateral acceleration of up to 1.1 G, making exceptional cornering speeds possible, while the fadeless braking system, which consists of 300mm cross-drilled discs with 4 piston calipers front and rear, provides outstanding stopping power.

But despite its remarkable performance, the MXT is not intended to be a hard-core track day special that maximizes speed but offers no practicality. Thus, the car is very well suited for long-distance road driving, oriented towards spirited drivers who seek an exhilarating drive. Benefiting from light weight, low center of gravity and relatively long wheelbase, the chassis offers a fine balance between ride and handling. Despite its agility and power, it is easy to control even at the limit of grip.

2012-Mercedes-Benz-SL-SL-350-Edition-Luxury-Auto-Direct (1)

With the completely redeveloped SL, Mercedes-Benz continues a tradition that began 60 years ago. The letters “SL” have ever since been synonymous with a symbiosis of sportiness, style and comfort – and with groundbreaking innovations. The new SL has been produced for the first time almost entirely from aluminium and weighs up to 140 kilograms less than its predecessor. Its highly rigid all-aluminium bodyshell provides the basis for agile, sporty handling that has been taken to an entirely new level, coupled with exemplary roll characteristics and ride comfort. Even better driving dynamics come courtesy of the new BlueDIRECT engines; they are more powerful yet at the same time up to 29 percent more economical than the engines in the outgoing generation. Other new features include the unique Frontbass system, which turns the luxury sports car into a concert hall regardless of whether the top is open or closed, and the highly efficient adaptive windscreen wipe/wash system MAGIC VISION CONTROL; it supplies water from the wiper blade as required and depending on the direction of wipe.

Compared with its successful predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz SL offers considerably more comfort and sportiness, setting new standards in the luxury roadster class. Added to which is uncompromising day-to-day suitability, which turns the SL into an incomparable all-rounder among sports cars. In short, anyone that talks about the new SL is bound to be talking about the ultimate in passionate, refined motoring.

Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: “There are around 900 million cars in the world and thousands of models. But there are only a handful of automotive icons. Our SL is one of them: it has class, it has style, it is the ultimate in comfort and luxury. But it combines all that with incredible sportiness and dynamism. You would struggle to find a car that embodies Gottlieb Daimler’s aspiration more perfectly than our new SL: the best or nothing.”

Lighter and more rigid: sophisticated all-aluminium bodyshell

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz SL takes the meaning of the famous letters “SL” – sporty, lightweight – literally. Consistent weight reduction is one of the most outstanding design characteristics in the new SL as was the case in its namesake, the original SL of 1952 with its lightweight tubular frame. For the first time Mercedes-Benz has implemented an all-aluminium bodyshell in a series-production model. Only very few components consist of other materials. The designers use the even lighter magnesium for the cover behind the tank. High-strength steel tubing is integrated in the A-pillars for safety reasons.

The new aluminium bodyshell weighs around 110 kilograms less than it would using the steel technology from the predecessor. “The effect is rather as if a heavyweight-class passenger had got out of the car” says Dr Thomas Rudlaff, responsible for the aluminium bodyshell at Mercedes-Benz. “The result is perceptible and measurable. Less weight means more dynamism and less consumption. In other words: the motoring enjoyment increases, the environmental burden sinks.”

The aluminium structure is not only lighter but also proves superior to the predecessor’s steel construction in terms of rigidity, safety and comfort. This is achieved thanks, among other things, to its intelligent lightweight construction with components optimised for their specific task. Thus, diverse processes are used to make different kinds of aluminium depending on the use the component is to be given: the parts are made by chill casting or vacuum die-casting, worked into extruded aluminium sections or into aluminium panels of different thicknesses. The result: high rigidity, high safety levels and better vibration characteristics.

Although the new SL is even more comfortable and has more assistance systems on-board than its predecessor and therefore does actually sacrifice some of the weight saved through the aluminium bodyshell, the scales show some astonishing figures: the new SL 500 (1.785 kg) weighs around 125 kilograms less than its predecessor. On balance, the SL 350 (1.685 kg) is even 140 kilograms lighter – all thanks to a host of other intelligent enhanced details to reduce weight, which Mercedes-Benz has also implemented in the new SL in addition to the aluminium bodyshell.

Driving pleasure: frugal, powerful engines and agile suspension

Powerful while accelerating, effortlessly superior across all speeds, nimble on winding roads – the new SL provides ample driving pleasure. Apart from the powerful engines, the sportily tuned yet comfortable suspension, which also boasts intelligent lightweight construction, proves outstanding. For instance, the steering knuckles and spring links on the front axle are also made out of aluminium to reduce the unsprung masses. The same also applies to virtually all the wheel location components on the rear axle.

The new SL is available with two different suspension systems: the SL features semi-active adjustable damping as standard. The optional active suspension system ABC (Active Body Control) is available as an alternative.

Both suspension variants are combined with a new electromechanical Direct-Steer system featuring speed-sensitive power steering and a ratio that can be varied across the steering wheel angle. This ensures excellent straight-line stability and, therefore, a high degree of assuredness when travelling at motorway speeds and makes the SL very agile. It also reduces the amount of steering required when parking and manoeuvring.

The new V8 in the SL 500 develops 320 kW (435 hp) from its displacement of 4663 cc and thus around 12 percent more than its predecessor despite some 0.8 litres less displacement. The fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 22 percent. At the same time, the torque has increased from 530 Nm to 700 Nm – a gain of 32 percent. Although the displacement remains the same at 3499 cc, the new V6 engine in the new SL 350 develops 225 kW (306 hp) and delivers 370 Nm of torque. It uses just 6.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres, making it almost 30 percent more economical than its predecessor. Both engine variants come with a standard-fit ECO start/stop function. The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, which has been optimised in relation to fuel consumption and comfort, also contributes to the exemplary, low fuel consumption. The fuel economy of the BlueDIRECT engines takes nothing away from the roadster’s raciness. Quite the contrary: the SL 350 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, making it three tenths of a second faster than its predecessor. The SL 500 takes just 4.6 seconds – eight tenths less than the previous SL 500.

Interior: aesthetic, stylish, sporty

The new SL combines its aesthetically honed profile, which follows the Mercedes-Benz tradition, with a luxurious feel. Fine materials, perfectly finished with great attention to detail, distinguish the style and character of the interior.

Compared with its predecessor, the new generation of the SL is much longer 4612 mm (+50 mm) and wider 1877 mm (+57 mm), providing more room for more comfort in the interior, too. Shoulder room (+37 mm) and elbow room (+28 mm) have been increased, exceeding the dimensions normally found in this vehicle class. Clear lines create a formally coherent internal space within this comfortable interior. Generously used wood trim extends from the centre console across the dashboard into the doors, creating a pleasant wrap-around effect. Three types of wood along with two different aluminium trim finishes are available. Perfectly in tune with the roadster’s character, it combines the unpretentious atmosphere of a high-performance sports car with a comfortable, stylish ambience one comes to expect in a luxurious touring car.

Design: classic SL proportions

The designers have brought the latest generation of the SL unmistakably to life on the basis of tradition but added new perspectives and visions. The result is a stylishly sporty and elegant luxury sports car with the classic hallmark SL balanced proportions: the long bonnet gives way to a compact passenger compartment that is set well back. A wide, powerful rear end giving the impression of raciness provides the finishing touch. A handful of elaborately styled lines define the powerfully sculpted and yet calm surfaces of the flanks. Finely worked details, a striking rear end as well as ventilation grilles with chromed fins from the dynamic traditional Mercedes-Benz design heritage visually emphasise the SL legend.

An upright classic sports car radiator grille clearly marks out the new SL visually as a prestigious member of the current Mercedes-Benz sports car family. The centrally positioned star is a contemporary reinterpretation of the famous trademark, which now extends into the centre section with its organically flowing contours.

Dynamically slanting headlamps set well to the outside flank the striking front end and give the new roadster its own unmistakable face. The headlamps come as standard with the Intelligent Light System (ILS). With five different lighting functions that are tailored to typical driving and weather conditions, and are activated depending on the driving situation, they offer the driver a much better illuminated field of vision. The striking sidelights and the horizontal strip of the daytime running lamps in the far ends of the bumper feature LED technology.

Vario-roof: MAGIC SKY CONTROL as an option

The sixth generation of the SL also offers a vario-roof that can be retracted into the boot using an electrohydraulic mechanism to save space, which converts the SL in a few seconds into a roadster or a coupé, depending on the driver’s wishes and the weather. Unlike its predecessor, three versions are available for the new SL: painted, with glass roof or with the unique panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The transparent roof switches to light or dark at the push of a button. When light it is virtually transparent, offering an open-air experience even in cold weather. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up in bright sunlight. The frame of the three roof versions is made of magnesium, making the roofs around six kilograms lighter than the roof on the predecessor, thus providing a lower centre of gravity for the vehicle and, in turn, better agility.
The engineers have refined the operating mechanism for the roof and boot lid. It now takes less than 20 seconds to open or close the roof completely.

Aerodynamics: new standards

The design of the new SL not only meets high aesthetic demands but it also boasts exemplary aerodynamic qualities.
As such, the roadster merits best marks in its segment in four important disciplines:

• With the lowest drag coefficient (cd = 0.27 in the SL 350);
• With the lowest wind noise that is virtually on a par with a closed saloon;
• With the best comfort for open-top motoring so that you can still have the roof down even at high speed;
• With virtually no accumulation of dirt on the side windows.

Two world premieres: Frontbass and MAGIC VISION CONTROL

With two innovations, the new SL remains true to its tradition as technological trendsetter:

MAGIC VISION CONTROL is a new, intelligent and highly efficient wipe/wash system. The innovative wiper blade concept always applies the washer fluid just in front of the wiper blade lip via the channels integrated into the blade – in both directions of wipe. As a result, no water is splashed onto the windscreen during spraying to disrupt the driver’s visibility, while at the same time cleaning the windscreen perfectly. The water also remains on the windscreen, thus ensuring it is cleaned without troubling the occupants, even with the roof down. For the first time a fully heated wiper blade is available as an option that prevents snow or ice from forming on the blade in winter. This heating function also allows warm water to be applied directly onto the windscreen for the first time, even in cold temperatures.

The likewise unique Frontbass system intelligently uses the free spaces in the aluminium structures in front of the footwell as resonance spaces for the bass loudspeakers. As a result the new SL features clear, crisp bass sounds that make possible a concert hall ambience even with the top down, and frees up space in the doors.

Both innovations are part of the extensive standard equipment of the new SL.

HANDS-FREE ACCESS: ‘kick’ to open

The HANDS-FREE ACCESS system is another Mercedes-Benz innovation which provides hands-free, contactless operation of the boot lid. The driver simply moves their foot in the vicinity of the rear bumper. Mercedes-Benz is the only car maker to offer a system which not only automatically opens the boot lid but closes it as well.

The safest roadster

Thanks to the crash-optimised aluminium structure, standard-fit PRE-SAFE® and assistance systems on the same high level as the S-Class, the SL is the world’s safest roadster. The rigid aluminium bodyshell forms a sturdy passenger compartment along with precisely defined deformation zones in the front and rear ends. In the event of the vehicle overturning, A-pillars made out of a mix of steel and aluminium and two roll-over bars protect the passenger compartment. The restraint systems including the two-stage driver and front passenger airbags have been further developed. A headbag integrally covers the side head-impact area. An additional thorax airbag in the seat backrest can protect the upper body in the event of a side impact. Another new feature is the crash-responsive NECK-PRO head restraints developed by Mercedes-Benz which are fitted as standard in the SL.

An active bonnet and a front end with a large, yielding impact area help ensure pedestrian protection.
A safety highlight is the unrivalled anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® developed by Mercedes-Benz which is fitted as standard. If the system detects a serious risk of an accident, it reflexively activates precautionary protective measures for the vehicle occupants, so that the seat belts and airbags are able to fulfil their protective function to the full during an impact.

Additional post-crash measures supplement the integral safety concept and facilitate rapid assistance: regardless of the severity of the impact, the doors can be automatically unlocked after an accident, the interior lighting activated and the side windows lowered by 50 millimetres to ventilate the interior more effectively. The steering wheel can also be moved upwards.

Standard: ATTENTION ASSIST AND ADAPTIVE BRAKE

In the new SL too, a unique combination of driver assistance systems helps prevent accidents. These include the standard-fit drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST and the ADAPTIVE BRAKE. The latter features ABS, acceleration skid control (ASR) and active yaw control, and offers comfort and convenience functions in addition to safety functions.

The ADAPTIVE BRAKE works in conjunction with the equally adaptive brake lights. In emergency braking situations, it warns vehicles behind with flashing brake lights.

PRE-SAFE® Brake: autonomous partial and emergency braking in response to a serious risk of a rear-end collision

As an option DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control and PRE-SAFE® Brake, which is already well proven in other Mercedes-Benz models, are available. Both work on the basis of the same radar sensors. Once a serious risk of a rear-end collision is detected, the PRE-SAFE® Brake warns the driver initially and can initiate autonomous braking if the driver fails to react, and so either prevent the accident or at least mitigate its severity. PRE-SAFE® can also activate occupant protection measures.

Active Parking Assist: automatically manoeuvred into a parking space

The Active Parking Assist is new in the SL. Using ultrasound sensors it can identify parking spaces and automatically steer the vehicle into the space while parking.

Infotainment: COMAND with internet access

Even in the entry-level variant, the new Mercedes-Benz SL comes with the “Cockpit Management and Data System” COMAND. Functionality includes Bluetooth telephony along with simpler operation of the car phone. COMAND Online with internet access and DVD changer is also available as an option. It provides unlimited web browsing while the vehicle is stationary along with high-speed access to a Mercedes-Benz online service – for instance requesting a weather report or a special destination search. There is also the option of sending individual destinations and routes via Google Maps to the vehicle. For the first time, Mercedes-Benz is also offering new apps for the new SL: in addition to a free news app and a Facebook app, there are optional Mercedes-Benz apps for share prices and a car park finder. A Yelp app to look for restaurants is available for the US market.

Both COMAND versions feature a high-resolution TFT colour display with 17.8 cm diagonal (800 x 480 pixels) at the side next to the instrument cluster. This screen arrangement prevents the driver from being distracted as far as possible.

The new SL can be ordered from 15 December 2011. The prices including 19% VAT are as follows:

SL 350 BlueEFFICIENCY: 93,534.00 euros
SL 500 BlueEFFICIENCY: 117,096.00 euros

To coincide with the launch of the new SL, Mercedes-Benz will also be offering a special-edition model, the “Edition 1″, for a limited period. The “Edition 1″ is superbly equipped and comes as standard with a panoramic vario-roof, AMG bodystyling, sports suspension, AMG 19-inch light-alloy wheels, designo nappa leather with contrasting topstitching, AIRSCARF, heated seats, electric draught-stop, ambient lighting and Harman/Kardon® Logic7® surround sound system and much more. The designo crystal silver magno special paintwork is available exclusively for the “Edition 1″, along with trim in wave or deep white aluminium. Depending on the basic model, the extra charge is between 19,028.10 euros and 22,598.10 euros.

This remarkable, new Bentley V8 engine delivers maximum power of 500bhp (507PS/373Kw) at 6000 rev/min and an extraordinary peak torque of 660Nm (487 lb ft) which is available across virtually the entire rev range from 1700 to 5000 rev/min, providing exhilarating performance and effortless power delivery in the Bentley tradition. Combined with a new close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission, this translates into a sub-5 second acceleration time for the 0-60 mph (0-100km/h) sprint and a top speed of over 180mph (290km/h).

At the same time, the new V8 Continental models achieve outstanding levels of fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions for the luxury performance sector and are capable of travelling over 500 miles (800km) on a single tank of fuel. Full and official figures will be released in early 2012.

The arrival of the new V8 Continental models fulfils Bentley’s environmental commitment to produce a new powertrain that delivers a 40 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

The new V8 engine features variable displacement with a highly sophisticated engine management system, ensuring a seamless and imperceptible transition from V8 to V4 mode under light throttle load.

The high-technology V8 also features high pressure direct injection, low friction bearings, thermal management, energy recuperation via the charging system, and innovative turbo charger packaging for greater efficiency.

The instantly recognisable growl of the new 4.0 litre V8 engine sets it apart from its Bentley stablemates.

The new V8 engine will be available in two models; the Continental GT and the Continental GTC. Expressing their potent, muscular character, these models are distinguished by a black gloss matrix grille with chrome frame and centre bar, a red enamel Bentley ‘B’ badge, and a black matrix three-segment lower front bumper divided by distinctive body-coloured strakes.

At the rear, unique chromed ‘figure eight’ exhaust tailpipes, a dark lower valance and red enamel ‘B’ bootlid badge emphasise the sporty, contemporary identity of the new V8s.

Both models are specified with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard with an optional 21-inch six-spoke design which is available in dramatic Diamond Black (exclusive to the Continental V8) or Diamond Silver finishes.

Inside the cabin, an Eliade cloth headlining, new contemporary Dark Fiddleback Eucalyptus veneers, optional two-tone leather colour split and short centre console continue the fresh, sporting design theme.

The two new Continental models will be offered beneath the flagship 6.0 litre,12-cylinder engined Continental GT and GTC, which continue to excite customers with a combination of silken refinement and the ultimate power of the twin-turbocharged W12 Continental engine that, in its most potent form, delivers an astonishing 631bhp (640PS).

Both new models feature a state-of-the-art, all-wheel drive system employing an advanced Torsen differential and a 40:60 rear biased power split. This ensures safe yet dynamic sports car handling in all road conditions.

Since the launch of the original GT in 2003, the W12-engined Continental range has gone from strength to strength with over 50,000 sales worldwide, making Bentley’s factory in Crewe, England, the largest producer of 12 cylinder engines in the world. The W12 story continues to unfold and remains the ultimate expression of Bentley’s engineering strength.

Commenting on the launch of the new V8 Continental models, Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors said:

“With the new 4.0 litre V8 engine we are widening the appeal of the latest generation of Continentals, introducing a completely new driving experience. The new engine will have all the exhilarating power, drama and performance you would expect from a V8 engine sporting the famous Bentley wings, effortlessly delivered with our characteristic ‘wave of torque’. 2011-Chevrolet-COPO-Camaro-Concept-Luxury-Auto-Direct (1)

The COPO Camaro is back at Chevrolet, as a concept designed to the specifications for NHRA Stock Eliminator drag racing competition.

“The COPO Camaro is a proof of concept for what a Chevrolet Stock Eliminator entry could look like,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “And it is a clear indication that Chevrolet intends to homologate the Camaro for sportsman drag racing.”

The COPO concept vehicle is designed to accommodate more than one engine option, including a naturally aspirated 427 engine (7.0L) – the same displacement as the original COPO Camaros from 1969 – and a supercharged 327 (5.3L) engine. Among the many racing-specific features and equipment is a conversion from the Camaro’s standard independent rear axle to a solid axle, as well as a full chrome moly roll cage.

The basic content for the COPO Camaro Concept includes:

Provisions for two engine configurations (see below for details)
• Provisions for a Powerglide two-speed automatic transmission, a three-speed automatic or a five-speed manual
• High-rise cowl-induction hood
• Custom Aeromotive fuel system, with a fuel cell and integral high-pressure fuel pump
• Full, chrome moly roll cage
• Coil-over front suspension with Strange Engineering adjustable struts
• Custom rear suspension, based on NHRA requirements, with Strange Engineering shocks, Panhard bar and stabilizer bar
• Strange Engineering S-9 solid rear axle with aluminum third member, 35-spline spool, 35-spline axles and 4.10 gear set
• Lightweight, COPO-specific racing wheels
29×9-inch rear radial racing slicks and 4.5×28x15-inch front tires
• Manual steering system
• Strange Engineering lightweight racing brakes system with standard line lock.

The interior is all business, with most sound deadening and power accessories deleted. Instead, there is pair of racing bucket seats (and no rear seat), a safety harness for the driver, a competition floor shifter and Chevrolet Performance gauges by Auto Meter.

The engines

Intended for NHRA’s various Stock Eliminator classes, the COPO Camaro concept has provisions for two distinct engine packages – each built to conform to class guidelines. The details below outline the core specifications of each engine and their intended classes.

The concept vehicle is powered by a prototype version of the supercharged 327 engine, featuring an LSX cylinder block.

The COPO legacy

Since 1955, NHRA Stock Eliminator has been a straight-line proving ground for the quickest cars to come out of Detroit. Within Stock Eliminator, there are many classes, all defined by the ratio of vehicle shipping weight and the assigned horsepower factor. Because of this tightly monitored set of rules and historically brutal competition, Stock Eliminator is the ultimate test for factory muscle cars.

From the “Fuelie” ’57 Bel Air to the ’62 409 Impala and countless muscle cars that came later, Chevrolet has enjoyed a long, dominant position in this sportsman drag racing category. None of the cars, however, have dominated both the track and muscle car folklore like the legendary COPO Camaros produced in 1969.

In the Sixties, COPO was the acronym for Central Office Production Order, within Chevrolet’s vehicle special-order program. Although normally used for fleet orders of trucks and company-owned cars, it was manipulated by a few performance-minded dealers to order vehicles with larger engines than were available in regular-production models – mostly with the intent of getting them to Stock Eliminator racers.

By pushing Chevrolet’s Central Office Production Order special-order program to its limit, a number of dealers were able to get 427-cubic-inch big-block engines installed in a handful of Camaros, when the largest official engine available was a 396. Two versions of the 427 engine were wrangled out of the factory: COPO 9561 was the Corvette-based L-72 edition with an iron cylinder block and COPO 9560 was the racing-designed ZL1 engine with a lighter aluminum cylinder block.

The COPO Camaros opened up the NHRA rulebook to some exciting combinations for Camaro, helping keep Chevrolet at the top of the ultra-competitive form of motorsports. In fact, they were not only competitive in NHRA Stock Eliminator when new, but still hold the national ET and MPH records in several classes.

2012 Ginetta G60 Official Press Release

2012-Ginetta-G60-Luxury-Auto-Direct (1)

In the last six years Ginetta Boss Lawrence Tomlinson has taken the British marque from a nostalgic relic of the 60’s – 70’s and turned it into what is today a formidable player in on the British motorsport scene. Himself an accomplished racing driver with an impressive engineering background Lawrence is gifted with a striking ability to ‘do it right’. Few are better placed to fully understand the purist love of driving and his very tough, very high standards are all evident in Ginetta’s new sports car, the G60.

The G60 is rare by any standards – with plans for only 50 to be produced each year for global distribution. But rarer still is a modern car company who have purposely engineered-out any and all superfluous electronic gadgetry. The carbon fibre G60 is built by the same impassioned team who build our world beating race cars, indeed it shares the same 3.7 litre cyclone engine as its 185mph GT3 racing stable mate.

Selfish and unremitting in the pursuit of the perfect driving experience the standard of the race-tech engineering speaks for itself;delivering in spadesthe natural and very real sense of handling and performance any red-blooded driving enthusiast craves, strike that…needs.

The G60 story

‘Quality, Value and Innovation’ is the Ginetta by-line and the G60 is evidence of that philosophy.

The beautiful, evocative lines of the G60 bodywork mirror its predecessor, the F400, however under the much admired carbon fibre exterior lurks a very different machine.

In recent history Ginetta have designed and built each of its models from a blank sheet of paper, but when Lawrence discovered the Farbio project was in need of investment, he ‘simply couldn’t let such a beautiful car go to the wall’. In 2010 he stepped in and moved the production from the small Bath facility to Ginetta HQ where he set about evaluating the project, initially branding the existing cars with the moniker ‘F400’.

Whilst the F400 was without question a beautiful car with stacks of potential, existing cars had something of a mercurial nature with the individual examples exhibiting very different characteristics from their siblings, each more prototype than production-ready.

Adhering to his stead-fast belief that the proposition to each and every customer ‘must be right’ Lawrence made the decision to halt F400 production and start again from the beginning.

Ginetta has deconstructed the original car keeping only the exterior shape, whilst making minor improvements to aerodynamics by adding carbon fibre cooling vents and a revised splitter.

Under the skin, the carbon fibre shell is bonded to a new stiffer tubular steel chassis accommodating the Ginetta-sourced naturally aspirated 3.7ltr, 310bhp engine and 6 speed manual gearbox with an ATB limited slip differential for effective power delivery.

The suspension has been re-designed incorporating unassisted rack and pinion steering and aluminium billet uprights for stiffness and improved handing. There are new larger grooved and drilled disks with Alcon 4 pot brake callipers all round – making the G60’s deceleration as impressive as its acceleration.

The ECU and wiring harness is bespoke for improved reliability and the driver’s position has been re-evaluated; the pedals have been realigned and even the accelerator pedal grooves changed from a horizontal to a vertical plane for smoother throttle deliverance.

Once the power delivery and handling were perfected it was time to do away with extra weight and ‘nanny’ aids. Gone are the servo brakes, power assisted steering, ABS and traction control.

What you have left is a beautiful, addictive, carbon fibre sports car, capable of 0-60 in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 165+ mph weighing just 1080kg.

Exclusive and genuinely rare, only 50 of these breath-taking cars will be produced each year so don’t expect to see one on the neighbours drive any time soon.

Worthy of its ‘G’ badge we are extremely proud to present the Ginetta G60.
