Tutima Grand Classic Models Makes Steel Even Stronger

Uncompromising mechanical quality combined with maximum functionality has always been the staple at Tutima. Based on more than 70 years’ experience in the manufacture of professional chronographs, Tutima can deliver the reliability that has earned the trust of top-level sportsmen and NATO pilots.

Thanks to an innovative new process, the new Tutima Grand Classic cases made of hardened stainless steel can cope with even the toughest of demands.  Unlike conventional hardening processes, Tutima uses a unique method which takes several days to complete and allows the hardening process to penetrate deep into the core of the metal.  This not only allows the metal to achieve its maximum strength, but further protects the steel from scratches and renders it virtually corrosion-proof.  In addition, Tutima has applied to the new cases and steel bracelets, a chip-proof black PVD (physical vapor deposition) coating, which is nearly as hard as ceramic. This further step of applying PVD results in an even more durable product and an attractive and new look for the brand.

These new Grand Classic models from Tutima feature unique dials inspired by vintage 1930’s Tutima sports watches from Glashütte.

Rebellion Predator Chronograph

Rebellion_Predator

Many characteristics of the Predator, both technical and aesthetic, are inspired directly from racing cars – like the brake disks and the pedals – and are found throughout the watch.

First we have the five-layered dial, the base of which is in a honeycomb that ensures absolute rigidity while maximising transparency and lightness.

The chronograph counters are connected to the dial by push rod shaped bridges decorated with a central ruby reminding us that, despite the watch’s avant-gardist nature, the Predator is crafted with respect to horological tradition.

The sectorial seconds at 9h are indicated by means of a double hand: a shorter hand indicates 0 to 30 seconds, which is then replaced by a longer hand indicating 30 to 60 seconds.

In red gold or steel, the hands of the hours, minutes and chronograph are diamond-cut, hollowed, and then treated with SuperLumiNova to ensure excellent legibility and a lighter vision of time.

The bezel is attached by 8 distinctive screws with heads in the brand’s logo and the back by 6 torx screws, reinforcing the racing spirit of the watch.

Another exclusivity of this model: the case, which is constructed in a complex sandwich of superimposed layers allowing considerable personalisation according to owner’s taste.

The Predator is available in several case materials: red gold, red gold/ceramic, steel, steel/ceramic and red gold/steel.

The Predator is also available in a time-only version with three hands and date, as well as a mono-pusher chronograph.

An exclusive watch for those with a passion for speed

Despite its relatively classical shape, the Predator perfectly encompasses the passion of REBELLION ’s founders for endurance car racing. A passion that carries through to the race team that carries the brand’s name, ‘Racing Rebellion’, which will participate in the Le Mans 24 hours and the Le Mans Series with two Lola LMP1 driven by Nicolas Prost, Andrea Belicchi, Neel Jani and Jean-Christophe Boullion.

A limited edition of 24 watches, called the LM24, will be launched at the Le Mans 24 hours in 2010, and the watches will be worn by the drivers during the race. “

untitled 2 585

Based in the Swiss Jura and with a horological story studded with successes and inventions that remain unrivalled even to this day, the watch manufacturer, Edox, is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2009.

Since 2008, Edox has been the official partner of the Dubai International Marine Club, a dynamic sailing club that hosts almost 180 events per year. Undoubtedly one of its best representatives is the Sea Dubai, a magnificent class RC44 yacht.

untitled 4

The Grand Ocean collection is a classic and timeless name, with the second limited edition, dedicated to the crew of the sailing yacht, Sea Dubai, reflecting its continuing expansion. This Super Limited Edition embodies the sporting spirit of the regatta, a glorious blend of courtesy, fair play, sportsmanship and courage.

The generous 45 mm case remains unchanged, retaining the lines and appeal of the Grand Ocean collection with its now famous notched bezel. But this time, the watch case is coated in black PVD to emphasize the enigmatic element of the new model. Proudly sporting a blue 44, the symbol of the class, the black carbon dial is an elegant tribute to the Sea Dubai. The profiled sails and indices, hand applied in blue and nickel, highlight the maritime character of this new watch. The engraving on the case back has been reinterpreted, with a motif representing unfurled gennakers, the serial numbering and the name of the watch. That essential hallmark of the Grand Ocean collection, the famous porthole aperture that affords an in-depth view of the watch’s magnificent mechanism, has not been forgotten and provides the perfect finishing touch to the new Sea Dubai Super Limited Edition.

The limited edition number will be engraved on a plate affixed to the side of the watch-case.

The final and striking feature is the black rubber strap, easy to wear and resistant to salty sea spray. It lends a touch of supreme classicism and masculine elegance. Fitted with an Edox 94 mechanical caliber, the power reserve has a blue gauge on the dial, and the watch is water resistant to 244 meters.

The new Sea Dubai Super Limited Edition is limited to 244 pieces worldwide and is presented in a splendid wooden box with a porthole aperture.

Hublot’s Limited Edition “Big Bang Wally”

Hublot Big Bang Wally

Hublot’s partnership with Wally is consolidated with the “Big Bang Wally”

The Swiss watchmaker and the Monaco-based yacht manufacturer have already been partners for several years: Hublot is the official time keeper of the Wally Class during their regattas. And now in Saint -Tropez , the heads of the two companies will stand side by side to present the watch created in honour of their shared values. A chronograph which incorporates innovative materials, with a design and colours evocative of Wally yachts.
Hublot’s name is well-known in the yachting world, and the brand has always found it natural to have links with yachts and the sea, as demonstrated by its partnerships with the Monaco Yacht Club and the Real Club Nautico in Palma, and with Alinghi, Swiss Defender of the 33rd America’s Cup. The friendship with Wally began with a meeting between the heads Luca Bassani and Jean-Claude Biver, two men with a passion for innovation, design, technology, excellence and the marriage of new and unexpected materials. Whilst both men have a respect for traditional expertise, they also have a desire to create luxury objects using avant-garde, daring designs, whilst paying the same attention to detail and finish.
The Big Bang model created by Hublot for Wally – a limited edition of 500 watches – is achronograph made from an ultra-light alloy of aluminium and magnesium, amongst others, with a titanium movement and a rubber strap. The case, bezel and dial are all the same colour, and the WALLY logo sits on the counter at 9 o’clock, in black for continuity with the side inserts, the indices and the strap. This chronograph was selected in the “Sports watch” category of the prestigious Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève awards 2009, the results of which will be released in a few weeks.

The Big Bang Wally will be presented by Jean-Claude Biver and Luca Bassani during the last regattas of the season which are taking place in the Golfe de Saint-Tropez, where Wally yachts are present in great numbers. A meeting which succeeds in bringing together excellence and exclusivity.

“Deus ex Machina” Concept….A Batman Like Motorcycle Suit. Check out the VIDEO

AC_Deus_5 584

You don’t have to have a split personality or Christian Bale’s weird Batman voice to masquerade as a Marvel superhero (or villain).  All you need is a steel set and the newest incarnation of the motorbike: the “Deus ex Machina” bike suit.

Invented by mad scientist (and student at the Art Center College of Design) Jake Loniak, the D.e.M. is effectively a motorcycle you wear…

Emblazoned with the Yamaha brand, the D.e.M. will go from zero to sixty mph in three seconds operating like an extension of one’s body.  With a top speed of 75 mph, the exo-skeleton inspired design centers on receiving both power and steering from 36 pneumatic muscles, 2 linear actuators and an attached helmet.  Never before has the phrase, “In the driver’s seat” meant so much.

The D.e.M., as one would expect from a super hero’s mode of transportation, is green.  The engine is electrical and runs for one hour off a measly fifteen-minute charge.  So now you can save the heroine, the day, and the world all while leaving little to no impact on the environment.  Isn’t technology great?

The Deus ex Machina is a thrilling, yet slightly terrifying concept that I’m not sure I’d be willing to try – but then again, I was always more enamored with Aquaman and his adventures.  More on that later…

B.R.M. ’s R50-TN Performs Like a Fined Tuned Supercar

Watch

The French call it Reserve de Marche. The power reserve indicator is to the mechanical watch what the fuel gauge is to the gasoline engine. Indeed, one glance at B.R.M’s stunning new timepiece, the R50-TN, should be enough to convince anyone that luxury watches and motorsports might just have a whole lot more in common than we thought. We’ve been following for some time the first steps in America of a new and exciting brand, Bernard Richards Manufacture. Featuring radical engineering and bold designs, the French timepieces have brought a breath of fresh air on a market otherwise dominated by overwhelmingly conservative Swiss competitors. The B.R.M models have always paid a heavy tribute to the world of motorsports, but the R50-T Reserve de Marche goes further by incarnating the true essence of a high performance wristwatch. Behind the raw beauty emanating from the exposed movement, a masterpiece of craftsmanship shaped like a motorcycle engine, with the cylinder on the left, lies more than just a few revolutionary innovations.

First and foremost, let’s come back to the Reserve de Marche. This crucial feature measures and displays the tension left in the mainspring of a watch – and therefore the amount of autonomy remaining — at any given time. While an automatic timepiece needs at least 30% of its mainspring to be wound in order to run properly, it requires to be worn between 10 and 15 hours per day to reach a full wind. A lot of people tend to think that just shaking the watch a few times is enough to give it a jump start, and realize only later that automatic watches are actually designed to be worn most of the day and be put to rest only at night, just like the rest of us. Instead of being discretely tucked on the side, the Reserve de Marche is located at 6 o’clock on the R50-T. The smaller needle indicates the amount of power reserve left, with a maximum charge of 48 hours. The whole design brings competition to mind and is clearly reminiscent of motorcycle instrumentation. And, cruel or not in these times of inflated gas prices and deepening energy shortages, what the Reserve de Marche really tells us is how much time and energy we REALLY have left.

Everything about the B.R.M. R50-TN seems to bring us back to the universe of finely tuned race engines. This stunning achievement, released in late 2007 by the French manufacturer after two years of work, features the most ground-breaking design built around B.R.M.’s patented Isolastic System. The first French-made movement in three decades is mounted on fiber glass or carbon fiber triangles maintained by springs to minimize any vibration inside the case. The rotor is made of aluminum and a rare, hard and heavy metal called tantalum. Every screw has been replaced with a bolt, as if to underline the dramatic engine-like mechanism, enclosed in a 50 millimeter case made of extra hard titanium grade 2. The R50-TN Reserve de Marche was designed by a small team of passionate engineers with a serious weakness for motorsports in general, and sports motorcycles in particular. No wonder B.R.M. was recently asked to craft 10 unique timepieces to match the mind-blowing Ecosse Heretic Titanium Series, perhaps today’s rarest and most coveted street bike.

There have been hundreds of variations on the theme of the wristwatch as an accessory, or even a tribute, to a high-performance vehicle, car or motorcycle manufacturer, from Ferrari to Lamborghini, Porsche and Ducati to name just a few. Most of these watches  look great and succeed in exploiting the aesthetics associated with a brand’s logo and image. But the B.R.M. R50-TN Reserve de Marche is the real thing. You don’t need anyone’s seal of approval when you obviously embody the spirit of racing on your own, inside and out. In comparison with Swiss giants usually associated with motorsports such as Longines or Tag-Heuer, B.R.M. is a small manufacturer with genuine personal ties to the racing community. The word is out and many professional drivers, such as Henri Pescarolo, former Le Mans winner and current team owner, have already been seen, in action, wearing one of B.R.M.’s newest models. Then there are the regular people, like me and you. Well, without ever leaving your wrist, the R50-TN will make you feel as if you were riding your dream motorcycle into clockwork ecstasy.

Perhaps more than any other B.R.M. model, the R50-T Reserve de Marche echoes the Spartan features of a racing engine. Bare essentials are the key of high performance. You don’t need veneer panels, GPS and precious metals when your goal is to top the time sheets and to be the first to cross the checkered flag. You need high-tech materials and outstanding engineering, superior skills and absolute dedication. Let’s face it, there is something incredibly sexy and dangerous about keeping an engine entirely exposed, especially when this engine is rotating so close to your skin. Motorcycle comparisons aside, when equipped with bright red hands, the B.R.M. R50-TN reminds us of the classic Ferrari 360 Modena and its back window with the Italian V8 in full view. Something beautiful happens when raw power meets elegance. After making a name for itself in the past few years with gorgeous wristwatches, such as the V12-44, B.R.M. has stepped up to the next level with the R50-TN. The new timepiece has been a success in North America so far and was spotted several times at the Concours d’Elegance, last August, in Pebble Beach. As it opens a new chapter for the French manufacturer, the R50-TN foreshadows the Bi-Rotor, another masterpiece of Isolastic technology, and rumor has it that B.R.M. is about to unveil its first Tourbillon. The French is back. Keep an eye on the Reserve de Marche.

URWERK 103t :: The Tarantula

August 17, 2009 by josh

From the first time you lay eyes on their watches, their unique styled designs are etched into your memory.  URWERK, a Switzerland based fine watch company founded in 1995 has taken the rules of watch design set them aside to take their own path, creating something entirely different from traditional fine watch manufacturers. Introducing URWERK’s 103T: The Tarantula.

Making some improvements from the original UR103, the Tarantula (model number UR103t) incorporates cutting edge new materials and design techniques that take a radical design to the next level. The traditional Geneva Cross design of the previous models now incorporates a new shield-like structure that keeps the numbers located on the satellites hidden until they are absolutely needed.

From a mechanical standpoint the Tarantula is a marvel, with the cross and satellite design weighing in at more than 300 times heavier than traditional watch hands, a factor that requires the finest precision in the manufacturing of its’ components, and in assembling, balancing and regulating the complication.  In a few words, URWERK’S master craftsmen are truly remarkable at what they do. When each hour passes, the satellites perform four 120 degree turns as the cross makes its cycle before they are ready to complete their task for another hour.

To offset weight, the watch is constructed of high grade titanium and aluminum alloys, as well as relying on ARCAP 40 (an alloy primarily composed of copper and nickel with no magnetic proprieties and a high resistance to corrosion).

The URWERKs 103T is proof that there is still something new and original in the world of fine watches; and a worthy testament to chief designer Martin Frei (master watchmaker),  Felix Baumgartner and the entire URWERK team.

HUBLOT IN CHINA WITH THE RED DEVILS AND THE NEW BIG BANG “RED DEVIL 2”

Hublot red devil watch

For Swiss watchmaker Hublot , there are today so many reasons to organize an event in China: the opening of their shop in Hang Zhou, the launch of the second edition of the Red Devil Bang, together with the Manchester United team and, last but not least , the opportunity to make a gesture in support of the HOPE Foundation, through a one million $ challenge…

Hublot is continuing its activity in the Chinese market with an event which turned out to be both spectacular and generous. The watchmaking brand has invited several of the best Red Devils players to take up a challenge that would test even the most finely-honed shooting skills. This has taken place on the same day as the opening ceremony of their first shop in Hang Zhou at the prestigious department store “Hang Zhou Tower”. The aim was for Paul Scholes, Ji-Sung Park, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra to shoot the ball from the shore of the “West Lake” into a target placed 16 metres away, on a boat. For each goal scored, Hublot promised to donate the sum of $250,000 to the HOPE Foundation, a notfor- profit organisation who raises funds to help children in China and Hong Kong, by setting up education programs (David Gill, CEO of Manchester United, were there to cheer on the four players! In a festive spirit, the enthusiastic players finally couldn’t make it, even though Rio Ferdinand hit the target board very close to the hole. Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t resist to make an attempt himself – wearing his “every day” shoes ! -, and his legendary talent didn’t lie as he was the one who kicked the closest to the goal ! David Gill also tried, and then Jean-Claude Biver, after a attempt on the grass, boarded on a boat to bring symbolically the ball in the hole and to offer the Foundation $10’000, in addition to the 100’000 promised. The cheque was donated to the famous founders and representatives of Hope Foundation, the actress Miss Lee Xing Jie and the singer Miss Xu Ru Yun.After a committed season of cooperation and partnership, Hublot and the Red Devils used this event to present a new edition of the Big Bang in the colours of the reigning English champions. With a 45 minute counter at 9 o’clock, the “Red Devil” logo at 3 o’clock, and a new rose gold case fitted on a rubber Alligator strap, the series is limited to just 99 pieces! This new model will delight fans of both Manchester United and Big Bang with its sporty yet sophisticated appeal.
