One of only 175 produced, the SL65 Black Series is a tour-de-force of AMG’s engineering capabilities. Starting with the already potent 604HP twin-turbo V12 in the standard SL65, AMG increases the engine’s output to 661HP by the way of larger turbos, revised ducting, and ECU tweaks.
Complementing the power upgrade are the Black Series’ generous use of composite body panels and adjustable suspension. The carbon-fiber composites (CFRP), seen on the front clip, hood, roof and rear spoiler, shave about 550 lbs. off the curb weight compared with the standard SL65 AMG. To optimize handling on the track, the shocks, ride height, wheel alignment, and camber can be tuned to individual driver preference.

In styling, the new Black Series looks much more aggressive than a standard SL65 AMG. The front fascia features large air intakes, vents just aft of the front wheels aid engine cooling, and flared fenders complete the look. In the rear the retractable spoiler extends to improve rear grip when the car exceeds 75 mph. 19” lightweight forged wheels wearing aggressive tires complete the look. Compared to the standard SL65 AMG, the Black Series rides about 0.5 in. lower and is considerably wider, by 3.8 in. in front and 3.3 in back.
Best of all, luxury and technology are not sacrificed in the pursuit of this absolute performance. The big bad Benz is replete with AMG Exclusive Leather Upholstery with contrasting White Stitching, 12-Way Adjustable Multi-contour Sport Seats, and a COMAND Navigation System with 40GB HD.
This SL65 Black Series is a true luxury rocket: comfortable under part throttle around town and easily riding a tidal wave of torque to triple digit speeds and beyond. It is addictive! This is one of the finest road cars ever created by the masterminds at AMG.
